In Memoriam: Dragomir Radev, Professor of Computer Science
Dragomir Radev, the A. Bartlett Giamatti Professor of Laptop Science, and a beloved member of the SEAS neighborhood, has handed absent.
A celebrated scholar on quite a few topics, Radev joined the Yale school in 2017 right after several years of accomplishments as a professor at the College of Michigan. With an overarching objective of developing an infrastructure for computers and humans to interact in a fluent and natural way, Radev led novel study jobs with varied gurus throughout the Yale campus, like the Yale School of Medication, Division of Linguistics, and the Wu Tsai Institute for Neuroscience.

For his groundbreaking work in the burgeoning fields of purely natural language processing and synthetic intelligence, Radev obtained several distinctions. He was elected a Fellow of the Association for Computing Equipment, the Affiliation for the Advancement of Synthetic Intelligence, the American Association for the Development of Science, and the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL). For ten decades, he served as the secretary of the ACL and was honored in 2022 with the organization’s Distinguished Company Award for his longstanding and sustained services in a wide range of management and provider roles. In addition to his skilled accolades, Radev also cared deeply about students, proudly co-founding the North American Computational Linguistics Open up Levels of competition and coaching the US Countrywide Crew in the Worldwide Linguistics Olympiad to several gold medals.
Radev was a prolific researcher, and his projects had been diverse and bold. These contain his work to enhance the processing of electronic overall health records, automated e book summarization, and programming humor into organic language processing devices.

And he was similarly devoted to his students, as shown by his instruction at Yale, where by his classes were really well known, and his operate with NACLO and the Global Linguistics Olympiad.”
Radev was also a sought-following teacher. More than 200 college students enrolled in his study course on AI, which challenged learners to make methods that can play two-player game titles, address mazes, and translate texts applying neural networks.
